Tezpur

Tezpur is located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in the Sonitpur district of Assam. The city is the administrative headquarters of the district. The city is considered as the cultural capital of Assam. It is situated on the north bank of Brahmaputra about 170 km from Guwahati. Tea business is the main industry of this city. You would get to see several tea gardens around the city. Tezpur is base point to visit Nameri Wildlife Sanctuary known for Mahaseer fishing and bird watching.

  • Nearest Airport - Tezpur, It is well connected to Kolkata by direct flights. The airport is based at a place called Saloni which is about 8 km from the city. 
  • Nearest Railway Station - Guwahati (161 kms).
  • The city is well connected to Siliguri, Coochbehar, Itanagar, Dimapur, Shillong, Bongaigaon, Jorhat, Dobrugarh and Tinsukia by road. 
  • The most popular shopping district in Tezpur is Chowk Bazaar on MC Road in the heart of Tezpur. It is surrounded by shops that sell shoes and traditional hand woven Assamese silks. 
  • Mahabhairab Temple is 8th - 10th Century Shiva Temple and the site has signficance as it finds mention in Puranas.
  • Da-Parbatiya Shiva Temple - A 6th Century Shiva temple situated at a few kms from Tezpur. There are carvings that may of interest for those with interest in ancient temple architecture.
  • Holeshwar Temple is a Shiva Temple at 7 km from Tezpur.
  • Nameri National Park (35 kms) / Bhalukpong (57 kms) / Tipi (64 kms) - near Bhalukpong (Arunachal Pradesh) is home to 500 varieties of Orchids.
